As the little desert city along the shore of the mighty Colorado River starts to awake from its Winter slumber and the snow birds start to head home, the 2018 Hydro-Turf JetJam Racing series was prepping for its second weekend of racing in Lake Havasu City, AZ at the infamous Rotary Park. Friday during setup of the race site, the winds coming from California had presented the JetJam Redshirt crew a challenge of winds topping 30-plus mph! The challenge was accepted, course was set and they were ready to go for the weekend!
Saturday the winds were now a slight breeze and racers who had been to the site on Friday to start setting up their pits were relieved they had subsided and a great weekend was upon them. With the ever-growing Juniors classes, the 10-12 stock class had Jake Pierce showing Sebastien Girello and Dominic Cannady the fast way around the track and the 13-15’s Juniors had Brady Courson on top of a stacked class with great battles between Theo Beaumer and Revin Harris on the podium. Nedra Atwood had her cowbell ringing all weekend supporting her Junior racers!
Veteran Ski GP1 Open had Jeremy Poper coming all the way from Albuquerque, NM to show Joel Thayer and JB Gasperone of AZ he was number one for Saturday. Ski GP4 Stock had 14 riders take the line and battles between all were all throughout the course all day with Preston Matzdorff taking the overall win for Round 3. Women’s Ski GP2 limited, Kayoko Del Pardo held off Trisha Juarez and Bridget Poper for the top spot of the podium for Saturday.
Vintage GP1 550 Rob Flores made his way down from Las Vegas to Havasu for an overall win Saturday with Chris Hagest taking second and Brock Austin taking third. In Runabout GP2.2 Limited, Jason Ward from San Leandro, CA, took the top spot with Doug Wolff and Thomas Pagen taking second and third, respectively. One of the premier classes of the day was Ski GP1 Open, where Preston Matzdorff of Lake Havasu City, AZ atop his Kawasaki SX-R1500 took the top spot with JB Gaspeone and Aaron Geweke piloting Bullet hulls taking second and third for Saturday.
After a beautiful sunset that Arizona gives its residents every night, Sunday was upon us with more exciting racing on the waters of Lake Havasu for Round 4 of JetJam racing. Once again, Jake Pierce took the top spot on the podium over Sebastien Girello and Dominic Cannady for the Junior 10-12 GP3 Stock. Junior 13-15 GP3 Stock had Revin Harris taking the win over Brady Courson and Stevie Bascom. Sport GP3 Stock had Tyler Hill edging out Nick Leseney and Adam Levings for the win on Sunday. Ski GP2 Limited had Aaron Geweke, Trisha Juarez and Nathan Lopez on the top spots.

Runabout GP2.3 Spark Only, a class gaining a lot of traction early, had Justin Black taking first with Kyle Cameron and Cory Bloedorn rounding out the class. X2 GP1 Open had a full 8 riders on the line. Team Retro Racing swept the podium on Sunday with Doug Wolff taking first, Matthew Goade in second and James Gagnon taking third. Once again, in Ski GP1 Open, Preston Matzdorff of Lake Havasu City, AZ showed Tim Warner of Albuquerque, NM and JB Gasperone of Flagstaff, AZ, he was the one to beat and taking the top spot again for Sunday.
During Sunday’s awards, JetJam gave away a SSR-125 pit bike to those participants who had raced Rounds 1-4. The lucky recipient was James Gagnon, whose ticket was pulled for the bike that was sponsored by RiverRat Motorsports in Lake Havasu City, AZ. We all know any event cannot move forward without the great support from sponsors; including title sponsor Hydro-Turf, presenting sponsor Bud Light, and Shark Energy Drink, Hidden Trails Motorsports, Skat-Trak, JetRenu.
