ECW, GLW and Nauti Water Collaboration Forms U.S. National Watercross Council

0

Following in the heels of Nauti Water Racing’s weekend announcement of the acquisition of Jet Jam Racing and Full Throttle Racing, a union between three key closed-course regional racing organizations was announced Tuesday.

In social media posts at midday on Tuesday, Great Lakes Watercross, East Coast Watercross and Nauti Water Racing simultaneously announced the formation of the U.S. National Watercross Council – a collaboration between the three organizations.

The NWC covers a large swath of the US landscape, with East Coast Watercross known to be the go-to race tour for the northeast corner of the country, Great Lakes Watercross typically drawing racers from Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, and Natui Water – with the recent acquisition of Jet Jam and Full Throttle – covering the Midwest and West Coast.

“This historic collaboration marks the first time in the sport’s history that major promoters have joined forces, pooling their expertise and passion to elevate the watercross racing experience to new heights,” the announcement states.

As made evident by the stated mission of the NWC, all events under the new collaboration will remain under the IJSBA sanctioning body, and the NWC will serve as the governing body for IJSBA events. The full mission, posed under the tagline “Uniting for Excellence,” is stated as:

“To serve as the governing body for United States closed course International Jet Sports Boating Association (IJSBA) Watercross events. By aligning regional IJSBA closed course events and classes, maintaining a comprehensive U.S. IJSBA Points Table, and fostering cooperation among regional series, the Council aims to enhance the watercross racing experience for racers, spectators, sponsors, and fans nationwide.⁣”

In a shift, or perhaps more accurately described return, to what appears to be a unified regional approach to racing, the announcement detailed a “2024 Points Challenge” that will unify racing classes and points systems within the regional tours in the regular season, leading to two National Championships – one in the north and one in the south – and culminating in the IJSBA World Finals in Havasu.

According to the announcement, “Racers will accumulate closed course points in each regional series, with their top 4 points carried to the National Championship events in the North and South. The North and South high points leaders at each national championship event will be awarded, earning double points to propel them into the overall USA National Points Table leading up to the prestigious IJSBA World Finals.⁣”

The 2024 class list for the NWC, stated to align with the IJSBA World Finals points classes, include Pro Am Ski GP, Pro Am Ski Stock, Pro Am Ski Lites⁣, Pro Am Ski 4 Stroke Lites⁣, Novice Ski 4 Stroke Lites⁣, Amateur Runabout 1100 Stock / ECW: Stock 800 Runabout⁣, Novice Ski Lites⁣, Novice Ski Stock⁣, Pro Am Runabout Stock / ECW: Pro Am Runabout 4 Stroke⁣, Amateur Runabout 1100 Limited / ECW: Pro Am Runabout 800 Limited⁣, Amateur Runabout Rec Lites / ECW: Pro Am Rec Lites⁣, Sport Spec / ECW: Pro Am Sport Spec⁣, Runabout Naturally Aspirated⁣, Vintage 550⁣, Vintage X2⁣, Junior Ski Lites 10-12⁣, Junior Ski 4 Stroke Lites 10-15⁣, Junior Ski Lites 13-15⁣, and Junior Ski Stock 10-15⁣.

However, the announcement details additional changes following the 2024 season, stating, “⁣Starting in 2025, the Council will consolidate national events into a single national championship and a thrilling national point ranking system, featuring the events at best locations across the United States.⁣”

The Watercraft Journal will continue to monitor and report on the significant changes in the US PWC racing landscape in the coming weeks, and will report on the announced race schedules released so far in the coming days.

20th Annual Mark Hahn Memorial 300 Getting Closer

0

80 days may seem like a long countdown, but when the end goal is the landmark 20th running of one of the most iconic race events in the PWC race community, February 24 will be here before you know it.

In a post on the Mark Hahn Memorial 300 Facebook page this past Sunday, Ross Wallach, President of RPM Racing Enterprises, set out the parameters of the 2024 endurance race, and started the clock ticking on the countdown.

The ‘World’s Longest Continuous PWC Race’ has reached a milestone, The 2024 race will be The 20th Annual Yamaha Mark Hahn Memorial – Havasu 300 presented by Hot Products, Jettrim, Impros, Riva, Ford Bros. Racing, Works H20, Wallach stated, urging those interested in taking part in this milestone race to register early, stating “your registration is what allows Hot Products to continue to raise prize money.  Please pre-register.  The entry list will be updated weekly and then daily the closer we get to race day.”

As The Watercraft Journal reported at about this time last year, “Ross Wallach, president of RPM Enterprises, will be replacing DSM Events as the promoter for the  Annual IJSBA Mark Hahn Memorial 300- known as the “toughest, longest most challenging PWC endurance in the world.”

Last year, under Wallach’s watch, the event was moved from Crazy Horse Campground to Point Beach inside Lake Havasu State Park, and the 2024 race will likewise base from Point Beach.

In Sunday’s post, Wallach noted some of the ground rules and regulations relating to the use of the State Park. Lake Havasu State Park fee is $20/vehicle (towing a trailer or individual vehicle) with up to 4 people for the day use. Additional people are $3/adult, with the fee paid at the main gate upon entrance to the park. However, it is noted that fees are waived for Lake Havasu State Park Annual Passholders.

There is a no noise ordinance in effect until 8 a.m. on Saturday morning, and Wallach stated that camping may be available at Lake Havasu State Park.  WCJ checked the park’s reservation website yesterday evening and all camping spots were reserved for the weekend of the 24th, but there may be cancellations, so it is always best to double check at www.azstateparks.com. (I have personally stayed at the Cattail Cove State Park Campground during several World Finals weeks, a little over 15 miles away, and it is a very nice campground and there appears to be a few spots still available for the weekend of the 24th as of last night.)

Logistics for the event posted by Wallach include a 6:30 a.m. start time for Saturday morning move-in.

Pits spots are the first 5-6 rows and will be organized with sponsor/advertiser teams and preferred pit parking available for a nominal fee for the first two rows, with ten Preferred Pit Spots available for purchase during online event registration.

As with last year’s race, all runabout race teams will use the Windsor boat launch ramp to enter and exit the course/pit stops/etc. once the race has started. Stand Ups will launch and retrieve from Point Beach.

The 2024 race will be a modified Le Man’s start as instituted last year, with all racers on their boats (no running to the boat), lanyards out, dead motor start in the water. Wallach noted that all race rules instituted for the 2023 race will be followed for the upcoming 20th anniversary race.

Both the Runabout N/A and Stand Up 2 Stroke classes have been removed from the lineup for 2024 due to no, or low, participation last year, but Wallach noted that, “Should there be interest in either of these two classes, a minimum of 4 entrants would be required to reinstate either class for the 2024 Mark Hahn Memorial Havasu 300.”

Those who have not yet registered for the event are invited to register online, with no money due until February 3. Any registrations received after Saturday, Feb. 3 will pay a $100 late fee.

Nauti Water Racing Announces Acquisition of Jet Jam Racing, Full Throttle WaterX

0

In what appears to be, for many in the Watercross race family, a surprise announcement, Nauti Water Racing announced that they have “acquired the assets of Jet Jam Racing and Full Throttle Watercross.”

The announcement was made by Nauti Water Race Promoter and Race Director Justin Smith Saturday Night on Nauti Water Racing’s Facebook page and later to the Nauti Water Instagram account.  No mention of the acquisition was found on the organization’s website  (although, on an unrelated note, Nauti Water does seem to have announced their first race for the 2024 season on their website – The Watercraft Journal will follow up on this story in the coming week!)

According to the social media announcement of the acquisition, the “strategic move solidifies Nauti Water Racing’s position as a leader in the exhilarating world of Jetski racing and further expands its reach within the industry.”

Jet Jam races took place primarily in Arizona and California. Full Throttle WaterX races in 2023 all took place in California. Nauti Water’s 2023 tour, the Mid America WaterX Championship, mostly took place in Texas, with some races in Kansas, Oklahoma, and Kentucky.

Smith states that Nauti Water will be working, with the acquisition of Full Throttle and Jet Jam, to “create … even more thrilling and competitive IJSBA sanction events.”

“Jet Jam Racing and Full Throttle Watercross have built remarkable legacies in the sport, and we are determined to take them to new heights. This is an important step towards our vision of revolutionizing Jetski racing and elevating it to unprecedented levels of excitement and professionalism,” Nauti Water Racing CEO Terry Hiebert stated in the announcement, expressing his gratitude to the fans of the two race organizations and adding, “Rest assured, we will continue to provide you with the thrilling races and unforgettable experiences you have come to expect, while also introducing new innovations and initiatives that will redefine the sport.”

As with many initial announcements of significant news, many questions are left unanswered by the Nauti Water release on the acquisition of the Jet Jam and Full Throttle race series, and The Watercraft Journal has requested an interview with Nauti Water leadership to find out those answers for our readers, and will update this story as soon as we have more information.

On Sunday afternoon, Deegan Newton, Full Throttle WaterX owner/director, posted a link to the Nauti Water announcement on the Full Throttle Facebook page, with the added comment, “Don’t be alarmed, we aren’t going anywhere Stay tuned, there is a lot more involved in this than what is said in this press release. This is going to be awesome, I promise!”

Newton added, in a post to the Full Throttle Facebook group, “There is a lot more to this that is going to be unveiled in the coming days. Please stay tuned. As for 2024, we aren’t going anywhere. This is going to be the same full throttle product you have all come to love and expect, but with an added twist and ADDITIONAL support from Nautiwater Racing. Once again, we aren’t going anywhere and I will still be involved as race director for the 2024 season!”

The Watercraft Journal has also requested an interview with Newton.

WCJ did note that, in a November 15 post on the Jet Jam Racing Facebook page, it was announced that Jet Jam Racing owner and operator Monte Hughes would be “stepping back from event promotions.” The announcement stated that Hughes would “stay close to the community, continue his work as a professional PWC mechanic, and support the sport where he can.”

There have been no updates to the Jet Jam Facebook page since that post, nor have there been any announcements on the organization’s website

RIVA Pumps Up The Boost For Kawasakis With New Supercharger Pulley Kit

0

Sea-Doo’s got the big daddy horsepower title. Yamaha’s new 1.9L certainly has the displacement. So what about Kawasaki? With the Ultra recently toppled from its “king of the hill” horsepower title, and touting the smallest displacement of all of the Big 3’s mightiest runabouts, it’s time JetSki gets a little love.

RIVA Racing just dropped a heck of a bombshell with the announcement of its new “K3” Supercharger Pulley Kit. The 101mm diameter main pulley spools up an addition 3psi over the OEM supercharger pulley, delivering more acceleration and a higher top speed (when paired with RIVA’s Stage 3 tune for correct calibration).

Made from high strength billet aluminum and coated with a military spec material for improved belt wear and corrosion resistance, the K3 Supercharger Pulley Kit also includes a stainless steel idler pulley with precision stainless bearing and special idler pulley installation tool, providing you all you need to make the swap.

Made entirely in the USA, RIVA Racing’s new K3 Supercharger Pulley Kit is designed for all 2014-and-newer Kawasaki Ultra 310 models. Priced at $492.96, and designed for strength, precision and corrosion-resistance in mind, you can ramp up the boost and keep your Kawi pinned longer and harder than ever before.

Radinn Carve Wins “Best Surfing Feeling” From DiveIn Magazine

0

Radinn continues to prove why the Carve grabbed the top spot for “Best Surfing Feeling” in DIVEIN Magazine’s Top Ten Electric Surfboards of 2023.

The Carve is Radinn’s high-performance model and it brings out the surfer in you when you ride it. The Carve is made for advanced riders who are ready to get after it and try new tricks to go even bigger on the water. The board was designed for making tight turns and riding on rail like on surfboard. It is super responsive and on point when it comes to pulling huge cutbacks and getting big airs. Add a pair of bindings and you can really go off!

You can see it in action here in this killer clip of the Radinn Carve Phantom with a rider locked in and going off! The slick black board looks great under the rider’s feet as he smoothly transitions from rail to rail on some glassy ocean swell. The bindings make all the difference when the rider takes to the air or pulls off deep turns on the wave face. A pair of FCS twin fins keep it loose when you want to shred and bite when you want to keep it on rail.

Watching the Carve in action is sure to get you stoked and ready to make waves with Radinn. You can head over to the Radinn website to get all the details on the Carve and their complete line up of boards and other hard goods.

Active Jet Sports Is Giving Away Their New SCOM for all 2019+ Sea-Doo 300s

0

Hey, quick question: Do you have a stock 2019-or-newer Sea-Doo 300? And are you tired of tapping out around 68-69 miles per hour but don’t want to make any permanent modifications? OK, one more question: Do you want to go faster without having to pay for it? Well, Active Jet Sport has good news for you!

Active Jet Sport just unveiled its own speed control override (SCOM) for all 2019-and-newer Sea-Doo 300’s ($169.15). For those who don’t know, the SCOM interrupts the signal that travels from the GPS speedometer to the engine ECU telling it to slow down once the speedometer reads 70mph.

Once installed (which takes literally 30-45 seconds), the SCOM allows the engine to continue running at full throttle, permitting your Sea-Doo to run reliably at speeds as high as 75-76 miles per hour (depending on rider weight, fuel level, altitude and weather conditions). It’s easily the best bang-for-the-buck modification you can make.

And like we teased, Active Jet Sport is giving one away to one lucky winner this coming December 9th. You’ve only got a little over a week or so to enter to win, so you better enter now here!

Keeping Up With All Things PWC – Editor Update

0

With 2 months behind me as Editor of The Watercraft Journal, I am almost starting to feel like I’m getting into the swing of things, but there is a long way to go, in my mind, before I am feeling comfortable at the helm of the publication that WCJ Editor-in-Chief Kevin Shaw put so much time and energy into launching and growing.

One of the keys to keeping the content as fresh and relevant as our readers deserve, is staying fully in touch with all aspects of the PWC world.. From new product launches, tech reviews, races and rec rides, to beginner tips, racer reviews, and spotlights on some of the amazing people involved in PWC – whether it’s racers, weekend riders, or adventure junkies.

To accomplish that, I scour, on a daily basis, social media, news releases, blog posts, Google alerts, podcasts and company websites, as well as stalking the pages of every race promoter and rec-ride organization I can think of,  and I think I now officially am a member of more than two dozen Jet Rider Nation groups.

But it’s going to take more than that! Not only is my time limited, with a new house, a full time job with the radio station, and plans to open a restaurant and bar this spring on top of my editor duties here, but the good news, the REALLY good news, the timely news.. Isn’t always in print… and that’s where y’all come in.

I need YOUR help. Know of a great secret place to take a weekend jet ski trip to?  Have tips on how to best winterize your ski or a step-by-step guide for newbies on how to get back on their ski when they (inevitably) fall off? Want to talk about your last win (or tough loss) at a race, or announce the schedule of your group’s next group ride? Is your company releasing a new product, or updating your website?

In the infamous words of Sandy Olsson, “Tell me about it, stud (or studette).”

Individuals, promoters, racers, ride captains, company promotions managers, weekend riders … I want to hear from you, because the things that are interesting to you, are likely things many of our readers would also be interested in. You can email me at [email protected], or reach me on Facebook at facebook.com/SouthernShutterbug

In the meantime, stay tuned to The Watercraft Journal website and Facebook/Instagram accounts for daily news … in the coming weeks before the new year, we’re featuring a late-season rec-ride right here in my neck of the woods in Northeast Georgia, checking in with the results from the UIM-ABP Aquabike Endurance World Championship and Aquabike World Championship GP of Lake Tobi, learning about a doctor that does house calls – on a jet ski, delving into a new all-carbon supercharged stand-up monster of a ski, announcements about upcoming The Watercraft Journal IRL Podcasts, plus much more.

In addition, as I go back in time to begin pursuing all of Kevin’s old posts to learn as much as I can about the full extent of the PWC audience and community (my involvement for the last 10 years has been limited to the race side of things), I will be posting on a (somewhat) regular basis, time-machine posts to WCJ Facebook and Instagram accounts, revisiting articles, interviews, product releases and exciting news worth remembering. Starting with a repost, later today, of The Watercraft Journal’s very first article, and Kevin’s words about the mission, purpose and promise of the publication when it started – and which I, as the new editor, hope to uphold!
