Sea-Doo has been involved in the wacky Red Bull Flutag events for over a decade and every event is zany and fun! FLUTAG means “Flying Day” in Australian. Flutag is a play on Red Bull’s tagline, Red Bull gives you wings. The contest is like no other, and teams are chosen through an application process, based on who has the most creative theme.
Once picked, they must build a flying contraption out of a very limited list of materials. On the day of the contest, the flying machines are pushed down a 160-foot runway on a faux aircraft carrier built by the Red Bull crew. Red Bull is notorious for its creativity and interesting and functional watercraft and terrestrial machines.
It’s Sea-Doo to the rescue when the flying machines get their little bit of hang time before plunging, careening, or just flopping into the water that’s 22 feet below. Sea-Doo sent a fleet of PWC and a couple of the new Switch Pontoon Boats to the two most recent Red Bull Flutag events held in Milwaukee and Toronto.
The water rescue team is on the scene to pull the wet pilots out of the water and to retrieve and clean up the debris as quickly as possible.
The Sea-Doo Switch was on hand serving as a media platform and a couple of honorary judges were onboard. Astronaut Chris Hadfield and Olympic and X-Games Gold Medalist Mark McMorris called the pontoon home for the day.
The aircraft are judged on how far they travel over the water, creativity, and ramp performance. This is a fantastic event and what better PWC to be on scene than Sea-Doo with their iBR and iDF systems? These are the perfect craft to keep the debris from clogging the intake and for maneuvering through the melee!
