Register for a five day 40 hour Police Officer Standards and Training (POST) course designed to provide marine patrol officers with the skills and practical experience to safely operate rescue watercraft (RWC). This course will prepare the student for operations conducted in inland waters, rivers, and oceans. Students will gain knowledge regarding nomenclature, pre and post operations inspections, personal protective equipment (PPE), accessories, trailering, and troubleshooting issues with vessels.
The class also covers “rules of the road”, weight bearing, centering, close quarter maneuvers, docking, reverse functions, towing, rescue, and safely getting underway. This course is jam packed with information for participants. Each student has the opportunity to soak up a wealth of knowledge that can be put into practical use while patrolling waterways and going on calls.
Skills will be assessed daily during the on the water training modules. Assessments include physical ability, decision making, and how you operate your machine while underway.
The course is titled ‘Personal Watercraft for LE’, presenter #9400, course #20113. Upon successful completion, students will receive a certificate. Prerequisites are listed as follows:
• Participants must be assigned to a marine patrol unit with RWC operations
• Must provide a copy of their NASBLA approved basic boater education certificate
• Must undergo a swim evaluation in full PPE
The class is physically demanding and each student must be a competent swimmer in order to participate. Each person also has to provide his or her own thermal protection.
