Seven Deadly Questions With Trisha Craft-Juarez of 10 Racing

0

The Watercraft Journal: Trisha, for those reading that don’t know can you please tell us what 10 Racing is and it was started.
Trisha Craft-Juarez: 10 Racing is a watercraft race team derived of some of the world’s most talented jet ski pilots. We wanted to surround ourselves with racers that are fully dedicated to the sport. So we created 10 Racing after I launched 10 FlexTape in in early 2017.

The team prides themselves on the daily dedication required to be a successful jet ski racer, from the day to day workouts to the countless laps on the water. It’s common to see our team at body beach practicing and helping each other achieve our goals. Our athletes are progressively setting themselves apart from the competition and bring a level of professionalism to the regional races.

WCJ: We would love to know more about these athletes that make up 10 Racing.
TCJ: Where do I start, our line-up of riders for 2018 are highly accomplished. Each and every one of them brings great value to the team; Stian Schjetlein (Bergen, Norway), Kole Cramer (Lake Havasu City, Arizona), Ulrik Bernsten (Hordaland, Norway), Preston Matzdorff (Lake Havasu City, Arizona), Tim Warner (Albuquerque, New Mexico), Jack Briscoe (Salt Lake City, Utah), Eric Senko (Las Vegas, Nevada), JB Gasperone (Flagstaff, Arizona), and Ryan Smith (Phillipsburg, Kansas).

WCJ: You mentioned 10 FlexTape, can you elaborate on what the tape is used for and is there any other products that you offer?
TCJ: 10 Flextape is a waterproof kinesiology tape that has many uses such as:

Allowing athletes to remain active while injured – This is one of the most important benefits of kinesiology taping for competitive athletes. Allowing them to continue training and/or competing as their injuries heal.

Prevention of cramping – Enhanced circulation to working muscles helps deliver oxygen and nutrients at the cellular level as well as accelerates the removal of lactic acid.

Speedier recovery – fatigued, overused muscles contain by-products of exercise (such as lactic acid) that contribute to pain and stiffness and limit the ability to continue exercising. When the tape is used over these areas, enhanced removal of these by-products allows for more rapid recovery.

Pain relief – The lifting action of the tape relieves pressure on the pain receptors directly under the skin.

Structural support – The unique elastic properties of kinesiology tape allow it to provide support to an injured muscle or joint. Which discourages harmful movements, while still allowing a safe healthy range of motion.

Reduced swelling – Reduced pressure on the lymphatic drainage channels enhances the removal of lfuids and other materials that collect in an injured area.

10 flextape is used in many different areas such as the elbow, knee, hand, hip, quad, lumbar, cervical, calf, shoulder and hamstring. We also offer arm compression sleeves which:

Aiding in muscle recovery – Compression arm sleeves are worn to aid in muscle recovery from previous activities. Wearing compression sleeves cuts down on recovery time allowing your blood flow to circulate quicker to the heart.

Preventing arm pump and cramping – 10 Compression sleeves are used to promote increase circulation by supporting the muscles in the elbow joint. This will prevent blood pooling in the forearms known as “arm pump”. Great for all activates including jetskiing, running, cycling, motocross and many more sports.

Protect your skin – Compression sleeves can also be used to protect your skin from harmful UV rays, minor bumps and scratches.

10 FlexTape provides our athletes with these products along with offering them to the world of jet ski racers. Most of the riders in our sport use the tape on their backs and shoulders.

WCJ: What do you do to prepare for an event or competition? What type of training do you do before the big day? Do you have any rituals you do the day of?
TCJ: I focus a lot on cardio 5-or-6 days a week, with two of those days being max VO2 training. I also train legs and shoulders a couple times a week. But I would take a day of riding over a day of training any day, You just can’t beat the way riding works your body, seeing how nothing translates 100-percent.

As far as the team goes, we train together off and on the track. We have team days where all the riders get together and practice as well. We help each other out by trading parts, lending skis, and luckily the riders always have a place for me to stay in Havasu. We have a great group of people that work together

WCJ: What does the team have planned for the 2018 season?
TCJ: We are very fortunate that we race in region one where they have several races going on this year. We will be attending the JetJam series, Jettribe Best of the West series and of course, the IJSBA World Finals. Our international riders will be competing in the UIM Aquabike series.

WCJ: We have heard lots about the team, but how about you and what got you into jetski racing?
TCJ: So a little bit about myself, I started racing runabouts in 2006 after a friend of mine convinced me to buy some jet skis. He used to race and introduced me to the sport. I fell in love with it. I like the challenge and the family atmosphere in jet ski racing. I met my husband Mateo Juarez through jet ski racing as well. He converted me to stand-ups and I haven’t looked back.

WCJ: Is there anyone out there you would like to take this time to thank?
TCJ: First and for most I would like to thank all of our riders for being a part of the team. Lance and Kole Cramer for helping me keep skis running, Print Shop Inc for hooking up the team trailer, JetPilot, Go Fast, ProWatercraft, Bullett, IPD, Monster Energy, Terrible Herbst, and JB Gasperone for everything he does for us.

Video: Interview with JetX Powersports Team Rider Jay Edworthy

0

Amber Wyatt, the host of Boys Toys caught up with JetX Powersports team rider, Jay Edworthy. The two met on a beach in Forth Lauderdale, FL. and discussed what makes a good AquaX racer. Edworthy was more than happy to offer his insights into racing. He talked about the importance of assessing the conditions on the water. A racer must be able to adapt to whatever the water delivers on race day. Aggressive riding is another factor to consider. Some riders prefer to ride harder than others. Edworthy makes it clear that all riders are different and tailor their riding to suit their style. Endurance is one of the most important aspects of competing on the AquaX circuit.

Competitors have to train hard in order for their bodies to meet the demands of racing. If you aren’t fit, you’re gonna quit. He proceeds to discuss how fast some of the boats move in the Pro Class. He says they’re capable of reaching speeds upwards of 80mph, sometimes more. Many racers like a boat that’s loose and forgiving. There’s less opportunity to catch an edge when sliding into a turn. No one wants their machine going one way while their body is going another. You can catch the short clip of the interview with JetX Powersports Rider, Jay Edworthy, here.

Video: Jet Skiing Croatia Can Be An Amazing Adventure

0

Jet Ski Safari Split is a cool little spot to rent a jet ski or take a guided tour. Split is the second largest city of Croatia and lies on the eastern shore of the Adriatic Sea. The climate is hot and dry during the summer months with occasionally cold wet winters. During the summer, the area has a Mediterranean type feel even somewhat subtropical. The location sounds perfect for spending an afternoon exploring the clear waters along the peninsula on a personal watercraft.

The Jet Ski Safari trip includes a 70 minute ski drive, 40 minutes of swimming and snorkeling, fuel, safety equipment, and a professional guide. A stop at the beautiful island of Ciovo is also included in this scenic trip.

Ciovo Island is located in the central Dalmatian archipelago and convenient to Split Airport, making it the perfect base for the traveler. The island is only 29 sq. kms and has been inhabited since prehistoric times. The ancient island is home to the Croatian Maritime Museum, which sounds like a cool place to immerse yourself into the sea faring history of the area.

Taking a tour on a personal watercraft is the perfect way to see a piece of Croatia because riding a jet ski makes it easy to get into hard to reach areas and you’ll observe more than the ordinary tourist. The island of Ciovo is notorious for its great squid fishing and a squid fishing festival takes place every year. That’s something you don’t often hear. Check out the Jet Ski Safari website to learn more about this particular Croatian journey by jet ski. They also have a Facebook page with even more information and stunning pictures.

14-Year-Old Jet Ski Racer Succumbs to Injuries

0

On February 7th, The Watercraft Journal published an article concerning a woman who was transported to a hospital after a jet ski crash in Borneo. Very few details were available during the time of writing. Little did we know, the woman was a popular 14-year-old stand up jet ski racer, Nurul Hannahdean Baharuddin. She was competing in the final round of the Brunei Jet Sports Association (BJSA) Enduro Jet Ski Challenge. The event was held on February 4th at the Serasa Water Sports Complex in Borneo.

A source who wished to remain anonymous provided details that we were unaware of at the time of writing the initial article. The person let us know that the event followed the strict protocol set forth by UIM. It also adhered to the IJSBA’s racing guidelines including the mandatory presence of rescue personnel. All of the competitors were required to wear the appropriate safety gear and all were in compliance with the rule.

According to our source, a freak accident took place on the water. Hannah suffered life threatening injuries when she and a fellow competitor crashed. Bahar was immediately pulled from the water and rushed to the hospital by local paramedics who were on scene. Bahar remained in the hospital until taken off life support February 11th.

She hailed from a long line of jet ski racers who are a respected part of the regional PWC scene. Hannah was sponsored by VictoryAthletes Brand. A company representative shared sincere condolences on their Instagram account. She was also a member of the Dean’s Racing Team and raced in the 2016 Kings Cup held in Thailand. #hannah53 will be missed by many. We at the Watercraft Journal send our deepest condolences to Hannah’s family.

Kool PWC Stuff To Begin Selling IPD Graphics Kits

0

Kool PWC Stuff will soon offer digitally printed PWC graphics from IPD Graphics. According to Kool PWC Stuff, all IPD Graphics’ kits will be printed in a thick “motocross style”. The designs on offer come in flashy colors, which are printed on premium materials. Once printed, the images are coated in a thick laminate for optimum durability and longevity. The IPD Graphics R&D team creates quality products and that’s something to keep in mind when considering the new line of graphics.

No one likes a rapidly fading or peeling graphic and we’re pretty sure people who ride personal watercraft won’t be disappointed with IPD’s graphics kits. A faded ski is an eyesore and makes us appear as though we don’t care about our watercraft. Of course some of us just want to ride and don’t worry about how our craft appears to others. As long as it runs well, that’s all that matters. However, a number of us prefer our skis to look stylish and clean for an extended period, especially those of us who race. The less time we spend applying new graphics means more time on the water.

Kool PWC hasn’t officially released the massive catalog of IPD Graphics kits to its site. We’re sure the crew is preparing to soon roll out the new product line. We will let you know when they’re available for purchase.
