Thomas Favolini “The Flying Frenchman” returns to Nassau after the 2019 World Championship where mechanical problems knocked out his ski, while Jay Finlinson from Northern Indiana will be vying for the Amateur International Cup in the AM 300 Class.

The event will be broadcast in the United States on the Bally Sports Regional Networks and CBS Sports Network, with international coverage on leading sports channels in more than 100 million homes in over 50 countries.

Pro Watercross 2022 World Championships Postponed Due to Damage from Hurricane Ian

0

Pro Watercross announced that the 2022 World Championships will be postponed until 2023; Hurricane Ian damaged the event venue and surrounding area, and local businesses and infrastructure would not be back online in time for the event.

Hurricane Ian made landfall in Southwest Florida on September 28, 2022 as a destructive Category 4 hurricane, causing widespread damage and flooding to the area.

Collier County/Naples in Florida drove the decision, as they manage Sugden Regional Park where the event was scheduled to be held this October.

Sugden Regional Park encompasses Lake Avalon – a 60-acre man-made lake & freshwater beach where the 2022 World Championship matches were scheduled to take place.

According to event organizers, “The storm surge caused inland flooding; Sugden Regional Park and area hotels and restaurants would not be ready for the event.”

“As you can imagine, these businesses are facing many obstacles and are working hard to open their doors again. We look forward to 2023 in Naples and wish everyone our best and a quick recovery,” PWX published in a written statement on their website.

Get a Handle on Sea-Doo’s Heated Handlebar Grips

0

Winter is on the way for most of us and we’ll be easing into winter riding gear as the cold winter months draws closer.  This makes the Sea-Doo Heated Handlebar Grips extremely appealing. The grips will enable a rider to stay out longer, since the hands will no longer get uncomfortably cold or numb. Biting cold wind and heavy salt spray can take the fun out of a ride when gloves get wet and cold.

The heated handlebar grips add an extra layer of warmth, so the cold won’t affect you as quickly, if at all. Sea-Doo designed these with harsh marine environments in mind. Simply replace existing grips with the easy slip-on design. Moreover, they have an ergonomically enhanced design with Sea-Doo’s palm rest design. The palm rest design provides more surface area for added palm support, so you won’t get as fatigued on longer rides.

The heated grips offer 5 preset heat levels so you can set it and forget it until you need to crank it up a notch. The grips are designed to fit on the Explorer Pro so you can level up your winter exploration. The Heated Hand Grips can be used on several models by using the Heated Grips Harness. Get your Sea-Doo ready for winter riding with a pair of Heated Handlebar Grips and order a pair now.

Sea-Doo Comes to The Rescue for Red Bull Flutag Events

0

Sea-Doo has been involved in the wacky Red Bull Flutag events for over a decade and every event is zany and fun! FLUTAG means “Flying Day” in Australian. Flutag is a play on Red Bull’s tagline, Red Bull gives you wings. The contest is like no other, and teams are chosen through an application process, based on who has the most creative theme.

Once picked, they must build a flying contraption out of a very limited list of materials. On the day of the contest, the flying machines are pushed down a 160-foot runway on a faux aircraft carrier built by the Red Bull crew. Red Bull is notorious for its creativity and interesting and functional watercraft and terrestrial machines.

It’s Sea-Doo to the rescue when the flying machines get their little bit of hang time before plunging, careening, or just flopping into the water that’s 22 feet below. Sea-Doo sent a fleet of PWC and a couple of the new Switch Pontoon Boats to the two most recent Red Bull Flutag events held in Milwaukee and Toronto.

The water rescue team is on the scene to pull the wet pilots out of the water and to retrieve and clean up the debris as quickly as possible.

The Sea-Doo Switch was on hand serving as a media platform and a couple of honorary judges were onboard. Astronaut Chris Hadfield and Olympic and X-Games Gold Medalist Mark McMorris called the pontoon home for the day.

The aircraft are judged on how far they travel over the water, creativity, and ramp performance. This is a fantastic event and what better PWC to be on scene than Sea-Doo with their iBR and iDF systems? These are the perfect craft to keep the debris from clogging the intake and for maneuvering through the melee!

Video: Finnegan’s Garage Hot Rods His 1994 Yamaha SuperJet

0

Mike Finnegan’s Garage usually features crazy project cars, cool trucks, and hopped-up boats, but he recently decided to shake things up and put out an episode featuring his classic 1994 Yamaha SuperJet.

More than a decade ago, Mike traded a 50cc Honda pit bike for the 2-stroke stand-up ski, and after working out some electrical demons and rigging up a replacement steering cable, he has ridden it hard without much more than basic maintenance.

Mike kept the 1994 2-stroke “Square nose” SuperJet basically stock with the exception of a Solas impeller, an upgraded ride plate (to reduce porpoising), and an occasional coil pack. Recently, however, the ski began to have some mechanical trouble and Mike decided it was time for a proper rebuild.

He called in Mark from Erickson Machine and Performance to turn his 28-year-old SuperJet into a bonafide hot rod. Ericson Machine focused on reliability when building out this ski, going to the newer style 701cc 62-T engine that came stock in the newer Yamaha “round noses” until they went 4-stroke.

The teardown of the ski went pretty quickly, with the guys knocking it out in just over 23 minutes. A snapped engine mount bolt ate up a ton of that time as the guys wrestled with the snapped stud. With the ski finally stripped, it was time to begin the rebuild from the jet pump forward.

Erickson installs the jet pump first, so that the input shaft can be properly aligned with the intermediate shaft and then with the coupler on the engine. Proper alignment and shimming are critical, and Mark takes his time to do it right. The new jet pump has a bored exit nozzle, a blueprinted and ported body, and additional cooling ports.

The new Solas stator also features a full stainless-steel body which reduces the corrosion and swelling common between on the aluminum housing and stainless wear ring of the stock pump. An upgraded cooling system includes dual channels, and a Stinger valve at the rear of the craft- which will open and close to fill and dump the water box- increasing bottom end power and torque.

This build also has a polished and tuned Factory Pipe B-pipe specially formed and designed for the SuperJet, as well as custom port-work and a billet head girdle to strengthen the water jacket and head. Forged 84mm Wossner pistons and a modified stroke length will allow the improved engine to produce about 130 horsepower.

Mike and guys get the ski in the water and fire it up for the first time. After running and revving the engine for a bit, Mark does a plug chop- a critical step in tuning 2-stroke engines. After making some adjustments to the carbs and leaning out the fuel-air mixture, the ski is ready to ride!

Despite nearly 30 years of hard service, this classic 2-stroke “square nose” Yamaha SuperJet has been given a new life as a 130hp stand-up hot rod any freestyler would be thrilled to ride.

PWC Owners Mobilize to Help First Responders In the Wake of Hurricane Ian

0

Hurricane Ian had just ripped its way through the West Coast of Florida, packing devastating winds and record levels of storm surge. Some areas of Naples encountered flooding greater than 8 feet; leaving many first responders completely immobilized.

In fact, Naples Fire-Rescue Department itself became flooded when rising waters overwhelmed the station- leaving fire trucks submerged and even causing one trucks to begin smoking.

Naples Fire-Rescue Engine 2 was en route to investigate a potential fire when the apparatus encountered high water and was unable to make it through. A video of the incident emerged on Facebook, and Watercraft Journal reached out to the Naples Fire-Rescue Department for more context.

Shortly after Engine 2 became immobilized by the rising water, good Samaritans on SeaDoo PWCs approached the engine and crew and asked if they needed a ride, according to Tarin Nagel with the Naples Fire-Rescue Department.

First responders boarded the SeaDoos- fully decked out in their firefighting gear- and were transported to the scene of the emergency, where they took mitigating action.

Around the same time the Naples incident above occurred, a post appeared on Jet Rider Nation Florida describing a group of PWC owners who had mobilized in Cape Coral and Lehigh Acres, to assist in rescue and recovery efforts.

Even though PWCs often get a bad rap for creating mayhem on the water, this goes to show that lumping all PWC owners into the same category as the mischief makers is unfair. In emergencies like this, PWCs can be utilized as a critical life-saving tool; able to travel where other vehicles simply cannot.
